I.E.C.T. Challenge 2015
Startup competition in great demand
The Austrian startup scene is alive. This was proven by more than 67 business plans that were submitted for the first I.E.C.T. Challenge 2015 by September 15th. The goal: Filling one of 5 spots at the pitching event at the Seegrube in Innsbruck. The reason for the huge demand can be easily explained. The best startups will be awarded an investment of Hermann Hauser’s I.E.C.T. Capital Partners.
Together with the crowdinvesting platform CONDA and the cooperation partners Standortagentur Tirol and Destination Wattens, the first I.E.C.T. Challenge was called out at the beginning of August. “We are impressed by the echo our call has triggered. Due to the great demand, we have even postponed the deadline for 3 more days, in order to give all projects a chance”, says I.E.C.T. founder Josef Hauser. The submitted projects come from all over Austria. Furthermore, there were also many startups from neighboring countries that answered the call from Tyrol.
From all applications, the top 10 startups are selected by the CONDA crowdinvesting experts and presented on conda.eu on September 25th, 2015. Those who succeed in the first round will then present their startup to a selected panel of judges. Johannes Hauser (co-founder and CEO of Nova Portfolio Management), Daniel Horak (co-founder and CEO of CONDA), and Walter Ischia (Founder of AYUDARUM) will choose the top 5 startups, who will be competing for the investment of Hermann Hauser and the I.E.C.T. Capital Partners on October 2nd, 2015. The top 5 jury consists of Hermann Hauser (founder of ACORN Computers, Amadeus Capital Partners, and venture capitalist), Florian and Christina Scholochow (CO-founders of mohemian and business angels), Harald Oberrauch (member of the board of directors of Durst Phototechnik and Alupress, business angel), and Christoph Lauscher (managing director SOT Süd-Ost Treuhand).
For everyone who thinks about the formation of a business for the first time, who wants to grow an existing company, or who is looking for investors and a suitable network, the Standortagentur Tirol offers extensive assistance and support: From the first vague vision to a business idea, from a business idea to a business model, from a business model to one’s own company. The experts from Standortagentur Tirol will accompany you throughout the process of growing. If requested, they may also act as relationship managers of your foundation and establish important contacts for you – with potential team members, cooperation partners, industry experts, sponsors, banks, and investors of private equity or venture capital.
The “Destination Wattens Regionalentwicklung GmbH” is a partner of Swarovski in Wattens.
Apart from numerous activities, e.g. in the field of education through the establishment of “native speaking” educators in kindergartens and elementary schools, the creation of the “Werkstätte Wattens” has been at the center of attention for one year now. Under this title, a curated enterprise and creativity park for startups and established businesses will emerge on the area of Swarovski works II in Wattens from late autumn 2015 on. At this new place of “experimental phantasy”, services like a FabLab, financial consulting, accelerator and further education programs, as well as lectures and seminars, will inspire interdisciplinary exchange and raise the entrepreneurial “operating temperature”. In addition, the potential for synergies between the industrial company Swarovski and the new businesses shall be identified and made use of.
Since the beginning of December 2014, CONDA has been active as the first crowdinvesting platform in the entire German-speaking area. This way, it is possible for the first time for crowd investors from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland to invest into innovative businesses from the entire German-speaking region. Since March 2013, 27 “equity based crowdfunding” projects have been successfully completed. Due to the participation of approximately 2,000 crowd investors, over 2.6 million Euros have already been financed.
